Therefore, what is needed is the broadest platform possible to reach the people who need the information the most.As a result, I have realized that changing the future for those who see no future except a life of economic frustration is, in part, a numbers game. The same small percentage will experience a new perspective on life, regardless of the format.Instead, it is usually an “Aha!” moment resulting from one or more offhand comments made in the course of a class or a guest appearance. Surprisingly, that change is largely unrelated to the amount of time spent with the students. Those who do “get it” often undergo a dramatic change in their lives and whole outlook on the future. No matter how much time and effort is expended, only a small percentage of the students will realize that that they actually have the power to control their own success and begin to act on that realization. In the course of that work, several surprising lessons have emerged from the experience: The goal has been to show young people the value of thinking as entrepreneurs instead of wage workers. I have worked for several years as a mentor to at-risk high school students in several different charter schools and after school programs.
